Tommy Penley was part of the ASI Class of 1966

Thomas Dale Penley, 54, ASI Class of 1966, of 49 Maude Ave., died Monday, March 10, 2003, at the VA Medical Center, Asheville.

He was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam. He was an avid race fan and sportsman.

He was the son of Charles M. Penley Sr. of Asheville and the late Ernestine Creech Penley. In addition to his mother he was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles M. Penley Jr.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his brother, Daniel Penley and wife, Bobbi, of Greenville, S.C.; sisters, Shirley Chambers of Burlington and Sandra Moore of Semora; special friend, Yvonne Conner; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Anders-Rice Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Robert Owens officiating.  Burial in Newfound Baptist Church cemetery.
